Hello! Welcome, to Start My Library. My name is Annika Cushnyr and this is my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. To find out more about the Gold Award, visit the Gold Award tab. The goal of Start My Library is to improve literacy rates in New Mexico by inspiring people to read. Illiteracy is passed from parent to child. This is because if the parent cannot read and books are not kept in the home the child is never exposed to books. By providing books for free in a place families already come you eliminate the transportation burden of the library and the economic burden of the book store. The books can be taken home and kept forever. This allows a child to create their own library at home and hopefully keep them interested in books and learning. The Giving Library is located in Sandoval Regional Medical Center on the 3rd floor in the Family Practice waiting area.
